The windshield of a vehicle is one of the most important aspects of its design. It protects the driver while providing structural support for the entire vehicle. A windshield plays three very important roles during a collision:
You should never attempt to replace the windshield on your own. You can repair, but you should never attempt to replace it at home. Only certified technicians should install a new windshield.
There are four important aspects to a windshield replacement:
What You Should Ask the Technician
When you consult a windshield repair shop, you should make sure that you ask these questions.
Are all of your technicians certified?
Certified technicians are properly trained in windshield installation so you know that it’s being installed correctly. Remember, a properly installed windshield can save your life, and the life of your passengers in a crash, so no shortcuts. You can’t trust just anyone when it comes to the safety of your family. Do your due diligence to make sure that you are hiring the right professionals. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.
Note: All of our technicians are certified and we will answer any questions that you might have. Give us a call or fill out the form on this page and ask away.
Do you use Urethane adhesives that are recommended by manufacturers?
One of the most common mistakes made during windshield replacement is using the wrong type of adhesive. You do not want a shop that cuts corners in this area? It’s dangerous because the windshield can become dislodged during a crash. The most common cost-cutting method that is used by some shops is Butyl tape. This type of inferior adhesive falls apart during a crash. If a shop uses Butyl, avoid them at all costs! Choose a shop that only uses Urethane adhesive.
Do you offer a warranty?
Even certified technicians can run into problems. You want to make sure that the shop is willing to back up their work with a warranty. That way, if there are problems with the installation, they will fix the problem.
What kind of glass will be used?
There are different quality glasses that can be used for your windshield. Shops that offer OEM windshields are generally the best. It’s okay for a shop to give you the option of using aftermarket, generic windshieldso as long as they give you the option to decice. I recommend that you always choose OEM windshields. They might cost a little more, but they have strict quality controls that are set by the manufacturer of your vehicle. They are a much higher quality windshield.
